Our Staff

All of our teachers have their Teaching Certificate and a vast majority of our faculty are graduates of Christian liberal arts colleges.

Our Staff

Orangeville Christian School is a private, independent Christian School serving Shelburne, Caledon, Grand Valley and Orangeville as well as rural Dufferin County.

Hand picked, dedicated and in for the long haul.

Make no mistake about the fact that our team of highly qualified teachers and support staff could be using their credentials to make a lot more money in the secular workplace. But they’re not. They are all here at OCS, and for the same reason: to make a lasting difference in the life of your child.

For a job as important as that, only the best candidates are selected, and not only by academic merit, but by character as well. Our teachers must have warmth and compassion, a demonstrated love for God and a great sense of humour.

All of our teachers have their Teaching Certificate and a vast majority of our faculty are graduates of Christian liberal arts colleges. Teachers work closely with parents to ensure the best possible education for their children. Our unique and valuable shared commitment to Christ by both parents and teachers creates an atmosphere of love and care for the children. Academic excellence is expected and achieved through hard work and regular professional development.

Meet our staff below.

Rick is passionate about glorifying and enjoying God in every area of his life.  For twenty four years, he has pursued excellence in Christian education both as a teacher and administrator. He thoroughly enjoys interacting with students in the classroom, gym and especially at recess times. Rick is looking forward to serving God by providing experienced leadership to Orangeville Christian School.

Brad McGitchie

GR. 7 & 8 Teacher (BA, OCT)

Growing up I did not see myself becoming a teacher. In my early professional life I worked in the manufacturing industry. I felt called to take my hands on skills and interests to the classroom. For the past 7 years I have loved being a high school technology and robotics teacher. I have enjoyed being a part of this wonderful community at OCS as a parent, so now I am thrilled to combine my desire to serve Christ and my teaching skills as a teacher here. I encourage students to think critically and provide them with opportunities to learn experientially in my classroom. I want to prepare students for high school with a confidence in themselves and who God has created them to be.

Kristie Walraven

Gr. 5 & 6 Teacher & Vice Principal (BA, BEd, OCT)

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. God affirmed this passion as I grew and made it clear that I would serve Him in this vocation in a Christian school. I love being able to integrate God and His creation into my lessons, and having Him be the centre of what happens in my classroom. The most rewarding part of teaching for me is the relationships that develop with my students. I enjoy learning who they have been created to be, and to challenge them to develop their characteristics they’ve been designed with. I love relearning things through their eyes.

Alice Blydorp

Gr. 5 & 6 Teacher (BA, OCT)

Alice’s vibrant personality is a real asset to the classroom and to the whole school. When she’s not helping in the classroom, she can be found teaching piano lessons or organizing events. No matter what she is involved in, she serves with joy and energy.

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA), Music, Wilfrid Laurier University
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification (OCT)

Gabrielle VanDyk

Gr. 3 & 4 Teacher (BA, MEd Science)

Teaching always seemed like a natural choice for me. I always enjoyed school, from elementary school all the way through university and so it made sense to stay in that environment by becoming a teacher and hopefully having the same impact on my students that my teachers had on me.  I try to challenge students and make them see the potential that they are given, so that when they leave here they can really excel as a child of God, both in academics and the world.

Michelle Eby

Gr. 3 & 4 Ukulele

Michelle Eby loves working with children and teenagers. She is involved in many church ministries which include children from the nursery to youth group. Michelle also works part time as a support worker for adults and children with disabilities, many of whom request to hear her sing and play. Michelle is very excited to join the team at Orangeville Christian School so she can continue to share her joy for music and impact the lives of her students.

Michelle Eby has been singing since the age of two. First with her family, then as a duet act with her older sister who consistently pushed her vocally. She enjoyed many years of piano lessons from various styles of teachers which grew her love of music as well as her passion to share her talents.  Michelle plays keys and sings on the worship team at her home church, Crossroads Life Church in Harriston, as well as occasionally at Journey Church Orangeville. Michelle loves sharing her joy for music and now her skills also include ukulele, which has fulfilled her lifetime dream of sounding like a Hawaiian folk singer.

Meredith Dykstra

Gr. 2 Teacher (BA, BEd, OCT)

I remember going to my youngest sister’s kindergarten open house “looking for teaching ideas.” I was 11 at the time! I’m still always looking for new ideas and ways to share the excitement of learning. For the past 25 years, I have taught here in Ontario, as well as in Nigeria and Indonesia. Where I taught made little difference, for in all learning communities, we were called to put Christ at the centre of all things. And what I taught cannot be separated from who I taught. I’ve been richly blessed by my students – each unique – each created by God and loved by Him. Together we have shared, and continue to share, in a learning journey that helps prepare each student academically for life in this world as well as intentionally guiding each one to develop discernment and hearts geared for service.

Samantha Boschman

Gr. 1 Teacher (BSc, OCT)

I loved being a student so it seemed fitting that I would one day choose to stay in the school environment by becoming a teacher myself. I graduated from Liberty University’s Concurrent Education Program with a specialty in Social Studies and a minor in American History. I am passionate about learning and not just the academics but also the social, emotional and spiritual development of each student. I am very excited to explore the academic world through a Christ-centred lens with the students in my class!

Ann VanHarten

JK Teacher (BA, BEd, OCT) (3 days per week)

While I was still in high school, God impressed on me the desire to become a teacher. I followed His leading and became even more sure of my calling as I taught in Lethbridge, Alberta and Smithers, British Columbia for seven years. After the birth of our first child, I assumed that I would be a stay at home mom for the rest of my life but God had other plans. I became the Kindergarten teacher at OCS and have truly enjoyed all the years I have been here. I love children and I love being able to teach at a school where God comes first and we can speak freely about what He has done for us. I am very grateful that God has given me the opportunity to teach for as long as I have.

Laura Moyer

Extended Kindergarten Teacher (RECE) (2 DAYS PER WEEK)

I’ve had the immense privilege of working and volunteering with young children of various ages in different settings for over 15 years. Because children are learning and growing at a rapid rate, these early years are a fantastic opportunity to foster their desire to discover themselves and all about God’s world around them. I feel blessed to be a part of the Orangeville Christian School Kindergarten program, and I look forward to providing a rich learning environment full of experiences where our children can learn and grow.
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE)

Jenny Bakker

Special Education Resource Teacher (or SERT)

God has blessed me with a deep passion for teaching and instilling a love for learning in every child. I have a strong desire to see every child succeed. In order to do this, I am continually learning through reading, professional development training and working towards a Master’s Degree in Developmental Reading. I have had the opportunity to teach many different ages and in many different places. I spent three years teaching High School students and adults in Romania, two and half years teaching University of Waterloo students English at Conestoga College, and have taught Kindergarten and Grade 1/2 students here at OCS. God has been very present in my life wherever he has led me over the years, and I continue to see him working in me here at OCS. It is a privilege to be able to share my love for the Lord with the children I interact with every day. Every child that I come in contact with is loved, valued and cherished by the Lord and deserves to be given every opportunity to succeed!

Judy Johnson

Educational Assistant

Judy is our newest EA. As our school continues to grow, so has our need for additional staffing. Judy has a graceful and caring nature that is displayed whether it is in helping in the Kindergarten classroom or with individual students.  Her positive attitude and years of EA experience is a real blessing to OCS.

Ryan Grist

Music Teacher

Ryan’s passion and joy for music are quickly apparent. At the core of this creative energy is his love for jazz, the saxophone, and helping others realize their musical goals. Performance, ensemble leadership, private instruction, and personal study all give contexts to what Ryan really excels at – connecting and uplifting people through music. Ryan loves seeing his students grow and excel both spiritually and musically. His warmth and encouragement create a safe environment for young instrumentalists to learn and explore music, hopefully planting seeds for a lifetime of its enjoyment.

Ryan is the artistic director of the Orangeville Jazz Society and the Roof Top Big Band. For 20 years, he voluntarily led the Orangeville District Secondary School’s jazz band, and in 2011 was recognized as the ‘Arts Educator of the Year’ at the Mayor’s Breakfast for the Arts. Ryan was also the recipient of the Dufferin Youth Festival of the Arts Volunteerism award in 2015. Ryan is a graduate of Humber College’s Jazz and Commercial Music Program in Performance and is currently a graduate student pursuing his Masters in Musicology at York University.
