Grade 5 & 6
In Grades 5 and 6, there is a greater focus on students taking ownership and responsibility of their own learning as they refine their learning skills and become more independent thinkers.
In this division, there is a greater focus on the application of skills learned in the primary grades, coupled with co-creating learning goals and success criteria, and using varying tools and methods of assessment. Beautiful work is created when both teacher and peer feedback is given to improve learning.
Collaborative work is an integral part of this process where students gain confidence through group work. Opportunities to enhance leadership skills are encouraged through participation in chapel and assemblies. Students can also mix with their peers through active participation in intramurals at lunch recess.

Kristie Walraven
GR. 5 TEACHER (BA, BED, OCT)
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. God affirmed this passion as I grew and made it clear that I would serve Him in this vocation in a Christian school. I love being able to integrate God and His creation into my lessons, and having Him be the centre of what happens in my classroom. The most rewarding part of teaching for me is the relationships that develop with my students. I enjoy learning who they have been created to be, and to challenge them to develop their characteristics they’ve been designed with. I love relearning things through their eyes.

Alice Blydorp
GR. 5 TEACHER
Alice’s vibrant personality is a real asset to the classroom and to the whole school. When she’s not helping in the classroom, she can be found teaching piano lessons or organizing events. No matter what she is involved in, she serves with joy and energy.

Joe Kennedy
GR. 6 TEACHER
My teaching journey began in 2011, upon graduating from Lakehead University. I also obtained a Jazz Performance Diploma from Mohawk College and an Honours Music degree from McMaster University. As a teacher, I am passionate about educating students and helping their pursuit of a biblical worldview. I am excited to be joining the community of OCS as a staff member and I look forward to being able to foster personal and corporate worship at our school. Outside of school, I can be found spending time with my wife and three children here in Orangeville.
