Happy New Year!
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Psalm 8:1
A common thing to do around this time of year is reflect on the year that has passed and look ahead to the coming year. A question I have been asking myself is “Where has my focus been?” and along with that “Where will my focus be this coming year?”. It is so easy to get lost in the details of life, especially when those details are difficult or challenging, and lose sight of who we should be focusing on.
I have been reminded over and over again of our theme for this year, the sovereignty of God. Jesus Christ is Lord of All! Hebrews 12:1-2 says “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
We are challenged this coming year to focus our eyes on God, the author and perfecter of our faith. We are challenged to persevere as we run the race before us. The amazing thing about God is that he does not leave us on our own to run this race. Isaiah 41:10 promises “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Let’s keep our eyes on our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, this year as we strive to do his kingdom work here at Orangeville Christian School.
